The Supreme Court ruled that the ADA applies to cruise ships as long as they dock in US ports (even if they are under a foreign flag) as long as the internal affairs of the ship are not compromised back in 2005. (Spector v. Norwegian Cruise Lines).
A few weeks ago Department of Justice and Carnival Corporation entered an agreement settling pending ADA complaints (DJ No. 202-17M-206). In this case, the DOJ developed “corporate accessibility standards” for Carnival that are quite extensive. They remind us that our processes need visibility, accountability, authority as well as procedures for implementing the appropriate standards and accommodation processes.
