The Center for Disability Empowerment is anxious to promote its Youth Empowerment Program.

"The overall goal of this program is to increase independence, opportunities and community participation for Youth in transition. "

Susan Hetrick
Executive Director
The Center for Disability Empowerment

The project will address the needs of youth with disabilities in their senior year of high school or those who have completed their secondary education, or otherwise left school.  Independence, community inclusion and participation will be facilitated through Independent Living Skill development in the possible areas of post-secondary education, community based employment, recreation/social activities and self-advocacy.  This will be accomplished through one-on-one and group activities.  CDE is also preparing a one day training event which will empower youth to be engaged in local, state and federal policy issues pertaining to the disability community.

We request your assistance in identifying youth who meet the criteria above and who might be interested in participating in the program.  Please forward this information to others or send contacts to Sue Hetrick ([email protected]) or Olivia Caldeira ([email protected]).

The Center for Disability Empowerment (CDE) is a community-based, non-residential center that is driven by the choice and direction of people with disabilities. CDE serves individuals of any age, with any disability, who are residents of Franklin and Delaware counties.  CDE provides support and resources to enable consumers to meet their individual goals for living, learning, worshiping, and playing alongside people who do not have disabilities.  For more information please visit our website at:
